Quality comments:
Good quality. the yarn didn't split excessively and I found no knots in 2 skeins. Knitting was smooth and even on brittany wooden dp needles. Color was fast and the yarn fluffed up nicely after washing.

|
Other comments:
I used this yarn double for socks cuz I cannot knit with needles smaller than about a US4 due to tendinitis. I was very pleased with the hand and look of my 2-strand socks. Needless to say, a double-stranded sock on US5 needles works up much more quickly than a single on US1s!. The socks are still thin/fine enuff to go inside my dressier shoes and I can't wait to finish the mate to this sock and start wearing them. I really do like this yarn.

Color Jungle green; Blood Red, Blue Flannel, Columbine |
|
|
Quality comments:
The color was even. Although the Blue Flannel skein had some thin spots, the other skeins were all uniform in yarn thickness. Wildfoote was softer and less tightly spun than other sock yarns I've used recently. As a result it tended to split a tad more. It also pilled more when wearing. In the first handwashing, the Blood Red bled quite a bit. I used regular shampoo and the vinegar as recommended. Even though the water was alarmingly red, the color didn't mi grate onto the others.
|
|
Other comments:
I've knit three pairs of socks with Wildfoote alone and in combination with other yarns. It's serviceable though soft. I'd rate the Wildfoote as slightly less itchy than the Kroy sock yarns, but slightly more so than the Schoeller Esslinger Fortissima. Wildfoote fluffs, fuzzes and pills too readily for my taste. It does have nice elasticity, a plus for the socks with Fair Isle type two-color patterns. The Jungle green (stranded mx of khaki, forest and medium greens) is very pleasing when knit up - a nice surprise since it looked rather drab in the skein. All in all, while I'm happy with all my finished pieces, for socks I prefer a "harder" finish, more tightly spun yarn that's keeps its original texture longer, but I'd love to make a vest out of the Wildfoote.

It splits a little, esp on the first round. It didn't split much at all when picked rather than thrown. The colour was true for the two skeins of this colour and also for the two skeins of another colour I used (which of course I cannot recall the name of and have lost the band to)- a pink/periwinlke blend. I had one knot in only one ply out of four skeins.

Other comments:
Naturally, I made socks. One pair was just plain stocking stitch. The other is the lace panel socks from "Pull Up Your Socks." The lace looks nice and crisp. The stocking stich pair is mine and feels wonderful. I haven't washed them yet.I want a pair for every day of the week.

This was a very pretty
yarn, and the spinning
was very even. I found
that this yarn torqued
mercilessly as I knit,
requiring that I stop
and spin the sock
around and around to
get the kinks out.
This eventually caused
the sock to bias
slightly.
|
|
Other comments:
The gauge I got with US 1 needles seemed a little loose, a smaller needle might have been more appropriate. I liked the appearance of the yarn, as well as the nylon content and machine washability, but due to the torquing, I will not be buying this yarn again.

The yarn was of uniform
thickness, and the
colors were just
beautiful. I used
circular Addi Turbo
needles, and did not
have a problem with
splitting. The
finished fabric was
soft and "silky-
feeling" and had a lot
of drape. Once washed,
the yarn became nicely
fuzzy and maintained
its softness and
drape. And the price
is fantastic.
|
|
Other comments:
I love the socks I made. I've only worn them maybe 3 times, but they are soft and haven't shown pilling or excess wear yet. The textured stitch I used on the cuff (Double Basket Stitch) was somewhat obscured by the tweedy colors and the fuzziness of the washed yarn, so I wouldn't use another very involved textured stitch pattern. Since I already have a few more skeins in my stash, I will definitely be using this yarn again.

I used this making a
textured sock, had
terrible problems with
it splitting. The yarn
seems to have a glaze
on it that if my hands
were a bit damp or on
very humid days the
yarn seemed to stick to
needles and left a
residue on needles that
I had to wash off.
|
|
Other comments:
This yarn comes in wonderful range of solid colors and does machine wash. I had problems with it splitting while working with it and so that made for slow knitting. I bought it on sale and might again but prefer other yarns, feel they are worth the slightly higher price to not have to deal with the splitting problem and glaze stickiness.

Wildfoote has never
disappointed me. I've
used it single-strand
for socks, double-
strand for cold-weather
accessories and it has
performed beautifully.
Washing really "blooms"
the finished product.
|
|
Other comments:
A hard-wearing, durable yarn perfectly suited for socks. Despite the manufacturer's recommendations to hand-wash and dry flat, I machine-wash and -dry regularly. My Wildfoote socks look better after two years of regular wear than any other brand of sockweight yarn I've tried.

I did not enjoy working
with this yarn. It is
too fine and too easy
to split with the
needle tips. The
recommended 7 spi gauge
also did not produce a
firm sock fabric. I
had to go down to size
1 needles and approx.
10 spi for a more "sock-
like" feel.

Other comments:
I would hesitate to use this again. If I did, I would more than likely use it doubled.

Hard-wearing, but does not feel good on the feet. I will not use this yarn again.

I find this yarn not
pleasant on the hands
while knitting with it -
it is mostly wool, but
it doesn't feel like
it. It also twists up
on itself a lot, splits
on the needles, and it
a little bit thinner
than most other
fingering weight wool-
nylon blend sock yarns.
|
|
Other comments:
The darker colors bleed a lot in the wash - my bright red has gone to a rose-pink after about 30 washings, and still continues to bleed unless I add vinegar to the wash water. I have not had that problem with the Kansas Sky (light blue) color.
These socks wear very comfortably, if knit at a tight enough gauge. They are a little smoother and silkier in feeling than the more "wooly" fingering weight sock yarns, and thus a little more comfortable in the summer and I like them for lace projects.

This yarn split a great
deal, particularly in
the beginning of my cuff
down socks, knit on size
1US. There were 3 thin
spots where the yarn was
not spun properly. That
said, the finished socks
seem hardy and so far
wear well.

The color (rhapsody) is fun. I admit I have not washed it yet, but plan to by hand with vinegar for the first time.

I used this yarn to knit
a pair of women's gloves
and a pair of children's
mittens. I did not have
any splitting problems
with the yarn. The color
pallette is really rich
and the colors work
together well. I am
planning to work a pair
of socks using several
colors together for my
next sock project.

Other comments:
Works well for small items. Wears fairly well for glove/mittens - sled pulling, snow balls, etc.
