Quality comments:
I love this yarn. I don't think that many of the yarns available are worth their price, but this stuff is smooth and silky, slightly furry, smells slightly of vinegar from the dyeing process. It is also permanently mothproofed by the manufacturer.

Other comments:
I have used this yarn in two projects, and I find that stockinette does not look as good as linen stitch or seed stitch or something else that combines knits and purls. However, the colors are absolutely fabulous and I find myself knitting one more row in the Sunbaked Earth just to see how the next set of colors with blend in the slip-stitch pattern I have chosen. I haven't washed or worn the 2 hats and the vest yet, but I love the color and the texture and I think the garments will be personal masterpieces.

No splitting to speak of, no knots in four hanks so far. One of the hanks took up the color less well than the other four-its colors look relatively washed-out in stretches, though not so dramatically so as to make the yarn unusable. Somewhat difficult to rip back, but not impossibly so.

Other comments:
I normally find variegated yarns unattractive, but the color combinations here called to me from the shelf every time I went into the local yarn store until I gave in. The colors are beautifully deep and saturated. I'm making a slip-stitch scarf out of this yarn, and it's working well. I would not use it for a larger project, as it would be too busy. Light and warm, with some scratchiness. Feels tender on the hands when working, though.

This yarn was a joy to
work with. The two
skeins I used didn't
have any knots. Of
course there's the
extra bother of winding
the hanks into balls,
but I expect this in
handpainted yarn.

Other comments:
I used this yarn in 1998 for a Fiber Trends felted hat, and I still love the result. The pattern called for using two strands of worsted-weight wool, so I used the Handpainted along with a strand of olive-green Lamb's Pride (another mohair blend, also made by Brown Sheep). The hat felted down beautifully. I wash it every year i the washing machine (NO agitation, just soak & spin dry) and it's come out great. And it has to be the warmest hat I own -- important here in Minnesota.

This mostly mohair
blend is SO soft and
silky, and not very
itchy. It is amazing to
work with and the
colors pattern
beautifully.

I am making a scarf using st st and whenever I get to the pinks I purl, to give a little more interest. I would use this yarn again in a second! I would make an excellent hat, too. I wouldn't make a whole garment out of it, though, too busy (and expensive).

I LOVE this yarn. I'm
generally very picky
because I also spin
yarn for sale, but I
still LOVE it! It's so
smooth and has a great
halo.

I love the colors in
this line. I used
Forest Floor
(beautiful!) to make a
pair of fingerless
gloves for myself. I do
agree that a textured
stitch pattern looks a
bit more interesting
for this yarn than
stockinette.

Other comments:
It is wonderfully soft and non-itchy. No knots, and even winding it into a ball was not a problem.

Lovely to work with
while knitting, this
yarn just feels
luxurious. The skeins I
had were all similarly
dyed and I can remember
only one or two knots
total. One project, a
shawl in Forrest Floor,
was knit in feather &
fan. It turned out very
snuggly and comfortable,
with beautiful colors
despite using a
variegated yarn for open
work. The other project
I've done was a tam in
cranberry. It looks
very elegant.
|
|
Other comments:
For me, stockinette stitch worked well for a small project in a solid color like the tam. Of course, the shaping did add some texture as well. I will use this yarn instantly the next time I want to knit a super soft, luxurious shawl or scarf.
