A bit of chaff but very few knots. No dye run-off or splitting. Dye lots are exact and mail-order was extremely fast.

This yarn can be used for any worsted-weight project. My favorite thing to make with it are warm socks, it's very soft and I even machine wash it and lay it flat (no shrinkage) Mittens are still beautiful after 3 years. The best thing is the colors-they have beautiful heathers & when you call the 1-800 # you talk directly to the owner. Since I started using this wool 7 years ago it's become nearly the only thing I use the children never complain of a scratchy feeling-even in their socks .

I love this yarn. I'm from New Brunswick so it's my "homegrown" wool and quite reasonably priced. However, I love it mostly because it's "bullet proof". The yarn is very hard wearing. I have 20 years old sweaters made from B&L wool that look like they came off the needles yesterday.
Other comments:
I just made a pair of heavy weight "work boot" socks from this yarn for a military friend. They are very thick and warm, much thicker than I would normally like for a sock. I'd never be able to wear them myself but I don't work outside in Canadian winters either.

This is a sturdy, rustic yarn. It would be considered "scratchy" by those who generally find wools scratchy; there's a little vegetable matter in the yarn, but not much. For people who generally tolerate wool, it's fine. It softens slightly on washing.
Other comments:
I used this yarn for a cabled garment, and it was perfectly suited. I used a heathered colour, and the cables stand out very well. The fabric is also substantial and thick at this gauge, so it's very good for outdoor wear. Pilling has been minimal. I'd use it again, and it's priced very nicely.

Gauge is using a double strand of yarn. Heritage is a good, basic wool yarn. It is not very soft. The yarn had a fair amount of vegetable matter in it that was either easy to pick out or vanished upon washing.
Other comments:
I used the yarn to knit the "Sweet and Lowdown" chair cover out of Interweave Knits, and it was a great choice. It comes in a great range of colors, it's reasonably priced, and it knit up into a beautiful (although not very soft) final product. I wouldn't knit sweaters for me from this (sensitivity issues), but it's still a great yarn.
